The Branch General Manager is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the Branch including sales, gross margin, operating margin, technician productivity, recruiting and hiring. In addition, he/she will direct and manage the activities and performance of the Territory Account Managers.
This includes, but is not limited to championing and integrating the corporate vision, values, culture and strategic plan to all employees within the Branch.
This group is responsible for the retrofit sales channels of the business but will maintain an excellent working relationship with the Contract Construction group. Responsibility also includes sales and operation of the service function; not just for the Company's products but for the servicing of any other vendor's mechanical products. Your group will also interface with the National Accounts group in that you will provide service, installation and local support to that group and their customers who fall within the geographic region of the Branch.
The Branch General Manager is responsible for the Branch's sales volume, operating efficiency, margin performance and customer satisfaction, while providing leadership and managerial expertise to increase market share in the retrofit sales channels of the business. The Branch General Manager will ensure the execution of and compliance with company procedures and policies relating to the enterprise's efforts to accomplish the overall business objectives of the company.
Selling by your group is accomplished through interface at the highest levels of customer organizations where they can present the value proposition. Continuous new business development is essential.
The Branch General Manager will be based within the Branch. It is estimated that overnight travel will amount to approximately 10% of the time.
In this role you will report to the Regional General Manager. This position requires a close working relationship with Territory Account Managers and other Branch General Managers. Direct reports to this position may include Territory Account Managers and Administrative Support.
It should be noted that demands and accountability are high for this position. The successful candidate cannot accept mediocrity and must drive for performance and perfection.
Growth within this division is tremendous having gone from $100 million in 2000 to over $1.5 billion today. Opportunity for advancement, within the division and the company as a whole, for a top producer is considerable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Operational Responsibilities:
* Direct and manage the activities and performance of Territory Account Managers assigned to this branch
* Assume complete responsibility for all aspects of the operation- sales, gross margin, operating margin, technician productivity, recruiting and hiring.
* Direct and coordinate the operation activities of the office to insure all orders are processed accurately and quickly to meet the highest standards.
* Responsible for ensuring continuing process improvements and efficiencies to meet the customer needs and company goals. Direct the ordering, shipping and inventory of product and supplies in an efficient manner.
* Supervise activities of assigned personnel to insure operating quality of product, installation, and timely shipment with a minimum of errors.
* Responsible for the management of human resources functions and duties including processes and policies, timekeeping, employee orientation, benefits personnel files and required paperwork processing.
* Responsible for the development of customer relationships which insure customer satisfaction and provide technical and/or operational guidance. This includes the resolution of customer problems with speed and finding ways to eliminate similar future problems.
* Actively participate in visits to customers as a means of increasing revenue.
* Responsible for the management of employee training and direct the training of employees on company policies, procedures and products.
* Responsible for ensuring consistency of action between customer service and production; coordinates activities to insure a faster degree of teamwork and cooperation.
* Responsible to serve as the Information Systems representative for system upgrades, implementations and issues with software and/or hardware.
* Perform duties and responsibilities as described in the quality system.
* Assist Regional Operations Manager as required, and performs other responsibilities, as requested by management.
* Working with the Regional General Manager, develop short and long-range operational objectives for the Branch, including staffing requirements.
* Assist with forecasting product sales levels and establishing and maintaining pricing strategies by product and market.
* Conduct performance management activities according to the performance management process including ensuring timely and effective administration of the OPR and Merit programs.
CANDIDATE CHARACTERISTICS
The successful candidate for this position must have a minimum of 5+ years experience in a sales office. Three plus years supervisory or management experience is preferred. Experience managing remote-site employees is also preferred.
A Bachelors Degree or the equivalent in work experience is required.
A high energy, demonstrated top achiever with a strong sense of urgency is required. The ideal candidate will consistently hold people accountable, will not accept mediocrity and will continually drive for perfection.
In addition he/she will have a background in commercial management, the capability and experience in presenting to high powered customers and the capacity to uphold all SOX policies with the highest level of integrity.
A very strategic mindset, a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills are all required. The ability to effectively manage the many working parts of the Branch simultaneously is paramount.
Strong leadership skills are essential. The successful candidate must successfully manage a P&L. The P&L management must be pro-active as opposed to reactive. You must be able to anticipate and recognize problems early so that you can maintain stability every month. This is essential. Margins must be maintained even when top line sales are off target.
You must change the existing mindset within your Branch that sales are below target because of the economy and there's nothing that can be done about that. If the mindset cannot be changed, you must quickly recognize that and take appropriate action to bring in new employees who have a take charge and can-do attitude. You need to create a solution-based selling force that will drive commercial sales. You must have the ability to motivate and remove road blocks to success.
In addition, the successful candidate will be well disciplined with excellent follow up and execution skills. A proven change agent who has the energy and drive to quickly make things happen. The Company requires someone who takes initiative and makes decisions.
